EVERY ARCHITECT SHOULD BE A POLITICIAN

If you are an architect you should be involved in leadership: making laws, policies and helping to determine the welfare of your community. The time has passed when architects turned up their noses and dismissed politics as a dirty game. An African adage says that if you wash your cup and air it outside and a mad man picks it, and you allow him to go with it, it will belong to him forever.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARC NKECHI KWALMI!

Today is Architect Nkechi Kwalmi's birthday.
This is wishing her a very Happy Birthday.

One of her friends wished her well thus: "Happy Birthday to my very special and amazing friend and sister. I wish you God's favour and blessings, dear NK..."

THIS CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF EFE DOGUN

looks good. Properly done with attention to details

If you are familiar with the area opposite NICON Luxury Hotel at Area 11, Garki, you must have noticed this interesting building that has just emerged to enliven the cityscape. It is a newly renovated building located on Asaba close, off Tafawa Balewa Road. A few months before, in its place was a lackluster, monotonic old building. Even in an old area of Abuja dotted with similarly aged buildings, this building stuck out like a sore thumb. The owner obviously desired an upgrade and invited Efe Dogun of Blacline Architects, to give him a design. I think he did a very good job of it. The contemporary exterior look, the interior spaces, and the colours all show marks of a good architectural design.

ARCHITECTS' BRAGGING TEE-SHIRTS

The inscription on this tee shirt says 'NEVER UNDERESTIMATE SOMEONE WITH AN ARCHITECTURE DEGREE'. How true! If you venture to do otherwise it would be at your own peril. I totally agree!

IS THIS THE TRUE HISTORY OF ABUJA?

The name Abuja is derived from the name Abubakar –Ja and Abubakar-Ja is derived from the name of a person called Mallam Abubakar JA and the name “Abubakar” is an Islamic name while the word “Ja” is referring to a red color in the Hausa Language; so Abubakar-Ja is literally translated as “Abubakar the Red” or “the Red Abubakar”, but its meaning is referring to one (Mallam/Mr./Alhaji) Abubakar who was Fair in Complexion in terms of his skin appearance and who was one of the settlers in the modern day Abuja long ago even before Nigeria was amalgamated in 1914. Mallam Abubakar was an indigene of the town, although he wasn’t the ruler of the town, but the neighboring communities describe this settlement as the town of Abubakar-JA.
